Utica - A funeral service for Betty Small Cowell, 88 of Utica, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 18, 2015 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica with Pastor Walter Bruah officiating. Burial will follow in Trenton Cemetery, Sunbury.
Friends may call 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 17, 2015 at Law-Baker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cowell passed away July 15, 2015 at Selma Markowitz Center, Newark. She was born February 23, 1927, in Croton to the late Merlin and Leatha (Grandstaff) Murphy.
Betty was a member of Fredonia Baptist Church.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Beverly Small, John and Barbara Small all of Mount Vernon; daughters and sons-in-law, Evelyn and Dominic Cataldo of Kennewick, WA, Linda and James Andress of Enterprise, AL; step-son, James Cowell of Newark; step-daughter, Vicki and James Lilly of Pataskala; grandchildren, Chris Cataldo of Kennewick, WA, Daniel Small of Centerburg, Gary Small of Mount Vernon, Phillip Small of Fredericktown, Diana Solie of Enterprise, AL, Lisa Hill of Prattville, AL; step-grandchildren, Tammy Woike, Paula Foster; great-grandchildren, Tom Cataldo, Gerran, Alexander, Danielle and Jaxson Small, Shelby and Courtney Solie, Baylee and Emma Fountain.
She is preceded in death by her husbands, George Small who passed away March 19, 1976 and James M. Cowell who passed away June 2, 1997; great-grandson, Tyler Solie; four brothers and one sister.
