Bruce E. Claggett, 89, of Newark, went home to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on December 7, 2018. He was born September 13, 1929, in Columbus to the late Hugh O. and Myrtle (Bruce) Claggett.
Bruce was a 1947 graduate of East High School where he lettered in football, basketball and baseball each year. He attended Capital University where he met Carolyn, his loving wife of 65 years. He served in the Army Corp of Engineers from 1950-1952. Bruce was an active member of the Highwater Congregational UCC and was involved with the Capital University Alumni Association. He was an avid sports fan, enjoyed playing cards, especially bridge, vacationing on Siesta Key and riding his Harley. Bruce owned Claggett Electric Co., Inc. and built buildings in his spare time. He always said he never worked a day in his life as he enjoyed everything he did.
He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was respected
and adored by all who knew him. Bruce is survived by his wife, Carolyn (Rau) Claggett; daughters and son-in-law, Christine Lowe of Sandusky, Cynthia (Randal) McInturf of Zanesville, Constance Claggett of Columbus; granddaughters, Lanae McInturf, Mindy McInturf, Jacquelyn Lowe, Emily Lowe; sisters, Twila Granger, Shirley Calhoun.
He was preceded in death by his parents and son-in-law, Ned Lowe.
Friends and family may call from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 pm on Monday, December 10, 2018 at Highwater Congregational UCC, 1213 Dutch Lane Rod. NW, Newark, OH 43055. An additional calling hour will be at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 followed by the funeral service at 11:00 am at Highwater Congregational UCC, with Rev. Scott Schieber officiating. Burial will follow in Wilson Cemetery.
