Calling hours for Donald F. VanNess, 67, of Utica, will be held 3:00-5:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 6, 2018, at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.

Donald passed away at Selma Markowitz Care Center, Newark. He was born June 16, 1950, in Columbus to the late Samuel F. and Susan V.(Sprague) VanNess.

He was a a custodian at Utica High School and a former police chief in Alexandria and Croton. He enjoyed painting, the outdoors and socializing.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Deborah K.(Pendleton) VanNess; daughters and son-in-law, Susie and Craig Myers and Karen VanNess, all of Utica; grandchildren, Adam, Ryan and Mandy Myers; sister, Karen VanNess; brother and sister-in-law, John and Ann VanNess; brothers-in-law, Gene (Robin) Pendleton, Leroy Pendleton; sisters-in-law, Sharon VanNess, Connie Pendleton; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gary E. VanNess, Sr.
