Dorothy E. Layton, 90 of Utica passed away on March 9, 2025 at Brookdale in Mt. Vernon. She was born on January 26, 1935 in Licking County to the late Harold W. and Ethel D. (Beaver) Smith.

Dorothy was a retired librarian from the Utica Library. She was a member of the Ohio Eastern Star Knox Chapter 236, Mt. Vernon and Daughters of the American Revolution. She loved playing cards.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Larry L. Layton; son, Stephen "Steve" Insley; and grandson, Jason Hamilton.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Gatha Insley; and brother, Glenn Smith.

An Eastern Star service will begin at 1pm followed by the memorial service on Tuesday, March 18, 2024 at Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial will follow at Newark Memorial Gardens.
