Edward "Ed" P. Specht

A funeral service for Edward "Ed" P. Specht, 98, of Newark will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-8 pm at the Law-Baker Funeral Home.
Ed passed away peacefully on September 13, 2016 at his residence. He was born on May 28, 1918 in Licking County to the late George W. and Leona B. (Preston) Specht.
He graduated from Utica High School in 1937. He worked at Owens Corning Fiberglass from 1940-1942 as a press operator. In January 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corp. He served as a Corporal in the 1st Marine Division, 2nd Battalion, Easy Company, Fleet Marine Force. He fought in the South Pacific including the Battle of Guadal Canal, Cape Gloucester, New Britain and many more. After the war he returned to his job at Owens Corning and moved into the Quality Control Department. He retired from Owens in 1982. He was an active member of the Newton Township Fire Department from 1955 to 1995 and was an honorary member from 1995 until his death.
He is survived by his son, Timothy Specht; daughter-in-law, Nancy Specht; grandchildren, Janel (Jeff) Diewald, Jamie (Greg) Myers, Elizabeth (Aaron Schumacher) Specht and Jonathan (Amber) Specht; many great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter, Adalynn, nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dotti.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his ex-wife, sisters, Isabelle Enck and Ruby Coffman and brother-in-law, Herman Coffman.
