Emmerson L. Blackburn

June 16, 1943-August 24, 2021

A funeral service for Emmerson L. Blackburn, 78, of Utica will be held at 10am on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Utica United Methodist Church, 628 North St., Utica with Pastor Jason Snyder officiating.  Burial will follow at Wilson Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Sunday, August 29, 2021 at the Utica United Methodist Church.

Emmerson passed away on August 24, 2021 at Riverside Hospital.  He was born on June 16, 1943 in Breaholm, WV to the late Herman and Verdie (Hunt) Blackburn.

Throughout his life Emmerson was always learning and working to support his family.  For ten years he was in new home construction.  He also served the Lorain County Sheriff Department for 28 years as an auxiliary deputy.  For 33 years he worked for General Motors as a tool and die maker at Elyria with the last 6 years at Brook Park.  From an early age he had a love of raising cattle.  He started his Blackburn Limousin Farms in 1976 and was a lifetime member of the North American Limousin Association.  His other interests included gardening, current events and politics.  He was a member of the Utica United Methodist Church and the Utica Historical Society.  He loved his church family.  Most of all he enjoyed being with Carole, going to the pond, riding around the property on the John Deere Gator watching the turkeys and deer.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carole (Beever) Blackburn; sister, Donna Pratt; brothers, Bob (Debbie), Joe (Evie) and Glenn Blackburn; sons, Emery (Jenny), Mathew and Ben Blackburn; daughter, Linda (Chuck) Boyd; step-daughter, Noelle (Tim) Wiersma; grandchildren, Mary Elam, Amanda, Megan and Dawn Webster, and Chipper Blackburn; step-grandchildren, Madeleine (Eli) Ryder, Evan and Vincent Wiersma; great-grandchildren, William and Finn Elam, Jared and Serenity Picone, Taij Fenelus and Anthony Webster.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Paulene Workman; brothers, Darwin, Brad and Bill Blackburn; great-grandson, Andrew Picone.
