Obituary

Gary Lee Carroll, 75, of Johnstown passed away peacefully on December 25, 2022 at Pataskala Oaks Care Center. He was born on April 13, 1947 in Greenfield, Ohio to the late Robert Burchett and Rosie Ellen (Fent) Carroll.

Gary honorably served in the United States Army during Vietnam as a member of the 5th Ranger Group Advisory Detachment where he earned the Bronze Star Medal. Following the war, Gary answered God's call on his life, graduating from Circleville Bible College in Circleville, Ohio. He was proud to serve as pastor at New Bethel Christian Union Church in Croton, Ohio where he remained for several years. Among his adventures were mission trips to Missouri, youth retreats, church camps, and many more. Gary walked with countless souls through their greatest joys and deepest sorrow. He was a calm, assuring presence in the midst of life's storms and extended a listening ear and the heart of a father to many along the way. Following retirement, Gary was employed by the Defense Supply Center Columbus in Whitehall, Ohio. He was an active member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Johnstown, Ohio and a member of the American Legion. He graduated from Edward Lee McClain High School in Greenfield, Ohio and attended Ohio University Chillicothe. Gary enjoyed singing in the choir and playing the organ and piano. He was an avid swimmer, gardener, and enjoyed woodworking.  He also enjoyed walking, photography, and genealogy.

He is survived by his daughters, Rachael Greenleaf, Charity Carroll, Amber (Charles) Kotzin, Tina (Marshall) Heil, Meagan Kirkpatrick and Nicole (Troy Orahood) Kirkpatrick-Booth; son, Andrew Kirkpatrick; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-granddaughters; siblings, Flora Howland, Bobby (Sharon) Carroll, Beverly (Doug) Salyer, Donnie (Connie) Willman, Mary Kay Looney, Denny (Cindy) Willman and Judy (John Carpenter) Cox; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carroll; grandson, Andrew Jordan Scales; and brother-in-laws, Roger Howland and David Looney.
