Herbert "Hub" E. McVay

Mount Vernon - A funeral service for Herbert "Hub" E. McVay, 89 of Mount Vernon, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Law-Baker Funeral Home with Pastor Sharon VanWinkle officiating. Burial will follow in Patterson Cemetery, Utica.

Hub died December 12, 2011 at Ohio Eastern Star Home, Mount Vernon. He was born July 28, 1922, in Monroe County, Ohio to the late Neri "Red" and Lizzie May (Lahmon) McVay.

He was a lifelong farmer and World War II Army Veteran. Hub was a member of Morgan Grange, American Legion, Post 92 and Utica VFW. He worked for Sam Clark Excavating and was a Morgan Township trustee for several years. Hub was involved in Battle Campaigns: Normandy, D-Day, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes Forest, Central Europe, Bastone and Battle of the Bluge. He was a Corporal in the 8th Corp Company, 3598 Military Combat Truck Unit, hauled fuel, rations, and ammunition for Patton's 3rd and 4th Armored Division.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, F. Jane (Raines) McVay of Mount Vernon; son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kristi McVay of Mount Vernon; daughters and sons-in-law, Anna Mae and Steve Chadwick of Grain Valley, MO, Sue Anne and John Bateman of Gambier; granddaughter, Emma Jane McVay; step grandchildren, James Bateman, Ericka Warns, Kelly Chellis and Alyssa Cotsamire; eleven great grandchildren; sisters and brother-in-law, Ruth and Joe Herring of Bellafontaine, Mable Wolford of Nevada; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Stanley McVay; sisters, Lucy Faye Woodruff and June Issacs.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Ohio Eastern Star Home, 1451 Gambier Rd., Mount Vernon, OH 43050 in his memory.
