James Arthur Abbott Sr., 91, of Newark formerly of Utica, died Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at the Selma Markowitz Hospice Center. He was born November 22, 1931 in Washington Township, Ohio to the late John Preston and Ella Susanna (Popham) Abbott.

James was a Korean War Veteran while serving in the U.S. Air Force. He retired from Walker Manufacturing in 1994 and was a member of the American Legion Post #92. During retirement, James enjoyed traveling with his wife. They traveled to all 50 states and several countries. In his evenings he enjoyed watching the Indians, Browns, and Buckeyes.

He is survived by his children, Susanna (Kevin) Tucker and James (Vickie) Abbott Jr.; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren with three on the way; four great great grandchildren with two on the way; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Carol Shaw; brothers, Thomas, William, Robert, Richard, Lester, and Rolla Abbott; and sisters, Marybelle Abbott, Martha Abbott, Evelyn Abbott, and Marge Martin.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of James to Hospice of Central Ohio.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 19, 2023, from 3-6 pm at the Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica, where the funeral service will be Monday, November 20, 2023 at 10:00 am.
