Obituary

James A. (Kenesaw) Landis, Sr., 87, of Newark, OH, passed away August 3, 2025, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 2, 1938, in Reform, OH, to the late Oliver R. and Floda A. (Vance) Landis.

Jim was a 1958 graduate of Utica High School and began his working career as a timber cutter for his father's business. This formed his love and vast knowledge of the woods and plants and wildlife within. He then went on to begin his forty-two year long career in the Aerospace industry, starting at the Newark Air Force Base and finally retiring from the Boeing Corporation. In the midst of this Jim, along with his wife, owned and operated the Utica Discount Store in Utica, Ohio.

Jim was happiest being at home; gardening, walking the woods, fishing in his pond, and caring for the property he loved. He was always trying something new; bee keeping, making maple syrup, using his 3-D printers, and mastering new technology (he was a true "techie" from an early age). Jim especially loved spending time with family, hosting celebrations at the pond, telling the best stories about his life, cheering on the Buckeyes, and giving numerous ranger rides to the great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol L. (Webb) Landis; son, James Landis Jr.; and daughters, Connie (Grant) Long and Cindy (Travis Fulk) Landis; grandchildren, Logan (Aubrey) Farley, Skyler (Janice) Farley, Canyon (Danielle) Carter, Cullen (Danielle) Carter, Parker Farley, Gage Farley, Caira (Reese) Clendening, and Allyson (Devon) Idleman; great-grandchildren, Mia, Stella, Bella, Beau, Sophia, James, Forrest, Luke, Levi, Kliff, Everett, Lane, Klyde, Ezra, and one on the way.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Leo Landis, Russell Landis, and Denver R. Landis, Sr.; sisters, Nola Shrock, Freda Stimpert, and Anna Bell Landis;

A celebration of life will be held in late September at Jim's beloved pond, with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating.
