James "Ted" Short

Utica - A funeral service for James "Ted" Short, 83 of Utica, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Law-Baker Funeral Home with Bruce Hissong officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with Military Honors.

Friends may call 6-9 p.m., Wednesday, June 4 at the funeral home.

Jim, died May 30, 2014 at OSU Medical Center. He was born September 11, 1930, in Bonanza, Kentucky to the late Arminus S. and Ida Mae (Curnutt) Short.

He was a United States Army Veteran having served in the Korean War. He served as a past Commander of the American Legion Post 92. He retired from the Miller Company and Walker Manufacturing.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Dixie Lee (Hall) Short of Utica, son, David Short of Utica, daughters, Teri and Dan Long of Johnstown, Mary Ann (Anna) Short of Columbus, grandson, Danny and Amy Long of Newark, brother, John Short of Lima, sisters, Mildred Stetner of San Luis Obispo, California, Imogene and Alan Duff of Lima, Audra Pyles of Lima, brother and sister-in-law, Russell "Bunny" (Jean) Hall of Worthington and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his siblings, Forrest, Lowell, Gary and Amber (Lula Belle) Short.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials be made to Gifts For Yanks, P.O. Box 2, Utica, Ohio 43080 or Foundation for Hospice of Central Ohio, P.O. Box 430, Newark, Ohio 43058-9909.
