A funeral service for James "Stephen" Torrens, 81, of Utica will be held at 11am on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3-7pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Stephen passed away on August 17, 2022 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 27, 1941 in the home on Homer Rd., Utica to the late Paul and Agnes (Hoar) Torrens.
Stephen attended Utica High School, was a school board member and drove school bus. He was a member of Utica Adult FFA Alumni Association, Utica Jaycees, Highwater Church, District farmer of the year, Co-Chairman of Ohio Jaycees farmer of the year, L.C. Soil and Water Board, Farm Bureau Council, L.C. Dairy Director, Co-Chairman of L.C. Dairy Extension Tours, Chairman of Tug of War at Jaycees July 4th Festival, Advisor and 4-H member of L.C. Jersey Cattle, Ohio Jersey Breeders, American Jersey Cattle Club, showed Jersey Cattle at local, state and national shows, hosted national, state and local dairy tours and picnics.
He owned and operated O'Do Acres Farm. Stephen's most memorable times were showing cattle at the Hartford Fair from the age of 9. He was a strong supporter of the Hartford Fair. He enjoyed playing euchre and watching his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren show cattle and play sports.
Left to cherish his memories are his loving wife of 57 years, Joann (Kreager) Torrens; children, Andrew (Candy) Torrens, Stephanie (Larry) Green and Jeff Garza; 9 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Jo (Gene) Branstool; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Paul Torrens.
