M. Jeannette Cochran
Mount Vernon - A funeral service for M. Jeannette Cochran, 90 of Mount Vernon, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica with Pastor Dave Fowles officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Family and friends may call 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Law-Baker Funeral Home.
Mrs. Cochran passed away July 19, 2015 at Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon. She was born March 8, 1925, in Coshocton to the late Frank and Ola (Debolt) McGruder.
Mrs. Cochran attended the Tuma Run and Muckshaw schools before her parents moved to Homer. She graduated from Homer High School, went to work as a bookkeeper at First National Bank in Utica and later worked at Amzi McPeek's Grocery in Homer; afterwards she worked at the Homer Telephone Office.
Jeannette married Chester Cochran, March 10, 1946. She was a member of the Homer United Methodist church for over 60 years, served as Sunday School Superintendent, a teacher, pianist, member of Womens Society and treasurer for the Homer Charge Parsonage for over 10 years. She was an original member of the Homer Community Garden Club, a life member of the Utica American Legion Auxiliary of Lawrence Lightner Post #92, a past president, a member of the Homer School P.T.O.
Jeannette also worked as an operator in the Homer Telephone Office, worked in the family business Chet's Sohio Service, was an assistant Libarian at the Homer Public Library, was a Volunteer at Clothes Encounter in MountVernon, and served on the Election Board for Miller Township. She enjoyed spending time with her loving family, crocheting, playing piano, working crossword puzzles, putting puzzles together and reading.
She is survived by four children, James (Suzy) Cochran, Pamela Rene' Scoles, all of Mount Vernon, Randy Cochran of Utica, Anita (John) Searl of Van Wert; five grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband, Chester R. Cochran who passed away May 25, 1985, her brothers, Ronald and Neal McGruder, nephew, William (Bill) McGruder and sister-in-law, Rosada McGruder.
