Martha J. Evans

Newark - A gathering of friends and family of Martha J. Evans, 76 of Newark, will be 10:00-11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 11, 2014 at Central Christian Church, 587 Mt. Vernon Rd., Newark with a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Jeff Gill will officiate.

There will be lunch in the church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.

Martha died October 7, 2014 at her residence. She was born September 6, 1938, in Newark to the late Charles C. and Helen (Penick) Cooperider.

Martha attended Central Christian Church, Newark. She was a member of both the United Methodist Church and Morgan Grange for 50 years and a member of Eagon Chapter OES 123. She retired as a teacher after 25 years at North Fork Schools, was a piano teacher for 25 years and a 4-H advisor for 25 years. Martha was an organist and piano accompanist for many years for churches and schools and was a charter member of Vintage Voices. Her family always came first and she enjoyed music, gardening, flowers and reading.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, David E. Evans of Newark, sons and daughters, Chris Evans of Newark, Connie Tracy of Hilliard, Sue (Jim) Hodge of Baltimore, Scott (Cathy) Evans of Granville; eight grandchildren, Andrea (Aaron) Beane, Andrew (Stephanie) Evans, Cole Evans, Brad (Jen) Tracy, Michael (Melissa) Hodge, Kaitlin Hodge, Samantha Evans, Alison Evans; six great-grandchildren, Makaylah Evans, Caleigh Evans, Vander Tracy, Salem Beane, Titus Beane, Lucas Hodge; sisters, Marge Doyle of Sacramento, CA, Maxine (Jim) Lantz of Granville, many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Charlene Kay Cooperider.
