Obituary

Michael William Crane, 72, of Utica, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, October 25, 2025, at his home. He was born June 8, 1953, in Mt. Vernon, Ohio, to the late Ronald and Freda (Debolt) Crane.

Michael was a proud graduate of Utica High School, Class of 1971, where he served as quarterback on the last team to win an LCL football championship — a memory he cherished throughout his life. He went on to work for Cardinal Electric, dedicating over 30 years before retiring in 2013.

A true outdoorsman, Michael found peace and joy in bow hunting, fishing, and simply being surrounded by nature. He especially loved watching his grandchildren play sports and cheering them on from the sidelines. Known for his kind heart and helpful nature, Michael was the first to lend a hand whenever someone needed it. His family and friends will remember him as a gentle, dependable man who always put others before himself.
Michael was also a devoted New York Yankees and Ohio State fan — never missing a chance to support his favorite team.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Lois; his children, Scott (Michelle) Crane and Holly (Cory) Henry; his cherished grandchildren, Alexander and Addyson Crane, Jonathan, Jakob, and Korbyn Coxen, and Payton and Hayley Henry; his sister, Belinda Branstool; stepmother, Donna Crane; and his beloved English Lab, Bella, who was his faithful companion.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Richard and Florence Claprood, and brother-in-law Paul Branstool.

Family and friends may visit on Thursday, October 30, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Utica Church of Christ, 115 N. Central Ave., Utica, OH, where a funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial will take place at Newark Memorial Gardens.

In honor of Michael's lifelong love of the Yankees, the family invites everyone attending to wear Yankees attire, or navy and white, to celebrate his memory in true Michael fashion.
