Mrs. McCollum passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, May 16, 2016 at Kendal at Granville. She was born November 30, 1922, in Newark to the late Carl C. and Matilda (Kunzi) Armstrong.
Muriel was a member of Chatham United Methodist Church. She worked for the Miller Company where she retired at the age of 53. Retirement was not for her though and she continued to work odd jobs into her late 80s. Muriel was an active woman who was always on the go. As a younger woman she enjoyed gardening and cooking as she grew older, she enjoyed spending her afternoons out with friends and family. Muriel was a kind, loving woman who touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her sons, Timothy Specht and Larry Armstrong; daughter-in-law, Nancy Specht; grandchildren, Janel (Jeff) Diewald, Jamie (Greg) Myers, Elizabeth Specht, Jonathan (Amber) Specht, Nathan (Brittany) Armstrong, Michael (Elizabeth) Armstrong and Jennifer Gayheart; many great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Howard McCollum; brothers, Ralph, Charles, Paul and Gene Armstrong.
