A graveside service for Pearl S. Rathburn Jr., 93 of Utica will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Marengo Cemetery with Pastor John Dougherty, his great nephew, officiating.
Mr. Rathburn passed away on January 12, 2015 at Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon. He was born March 20, 1921, in Morrow Co., Ohio to the late Pearl S. Sr. and Lottie Jane (Allen) Rathburn.
In Mr. Rathburn's early years he farmed with his father and after he married his first wife, Olive (Ward) Rathburn they lived in Baltimore, OH where he was Street Commisioner for many years. After his first wife died he married Marydelle (Scisson) Rathburn. After her death in 2010 he moved to Utica and made his home with his sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and Earl Layman until he entered Country Court Nursing Home in 2014.
He is survived by his sister, Thelma Layman; sister-in-law, Mary Ward of Columbus; nieces and nephews, Nancy (John) Karam of Utica, Patsy (Jim) Farmer of Utica, Doris (Elmore) Beale of Galion, Joann (Bob) Black of Enon, Jane Kennedy of St. Louisville, Marie (Don) Dalrymple of Mt. Vernon, Mary Kirby of Columbus, David (Mary Jo) Layman of Utica, Philip (Kim) Smith of Galena, Lonnie (Judy) Higgins of Mt. Vernon, Dean (Vickie) Higgins of Brandon, Fred (Sue) Dougherty of Logan and Ronald (Sally) Duffey of Gahanna.
In addition to his wives and parents, he is preceded in death by sisters, Rosetta (Lester) Smith, Winifred (Jack) Dougherty, Louise (Leslie) Duffey and Ida (Chester) Higgins; and nephew, Ed Dougherty.
