Richard Dale Gilbreath's Obituary
A funeral service for Richard Dale Gilbreath, 87 of Utica will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. Burial will follow at Lutheran Cemetery in Newark with military honors provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 11, 2015 from 4-7 pm at the funeral home.
Dick passed away on December 7, 2015 at the Selma Markowitz Center. He was born on July 3, 1928 in Marietta, OH to the late Lewis Herbert and Olive Blanche (Hecker) Gilbreath.
Dick was a 1947 graduate of Utica High School and served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. He married Anna Mae Ewers on March 26, 1955. Dick retired from Pittsburgh Plate Glass in 1977 after 29 years (he also had a Buckeye Potato Chip route for 10 years). Dick and his wife owned and operated Utica Furniture Stripping and enjoyed going to antique shows. Dick enjoyed photography, taking many family photos over the years and was an avid Ohio State Buckeye fan.
He was a member of the Ohio Mayflower Association, Licking County Genealogy Society, Morgan County Genealogy Society, N. Muskingum County Genealogy Society, Washington County Genealogy Society, Ohio Genealogy Society and Sons of the American Revolution. He was active in the Utica Historical Society.
He is survived by his daughters, Linda Bowden of Newark and Lorraine Monroe of Worthington; six grandchildren, Herk (Deanna) Kashner of Newark, Jeff Bowden of Newark, Joanna (Nick) Kelley of Twinsburg, Audrey Monroe of Seattle, WA, Tara (Greg) Long of Columbus and Colin (Audrey) Monroe of Columbus; thirteen great-grandchildren; one niece and three nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Anna Mae (Ewers) Gilbreath who passed away September 11, 2003; brother Charles (Sophie) Gilbreath; sister, Lucille (Richard) Smith; daughter, Lois Kashner; sons-in-law, William Kashner and Joseph Bowden.
