Obituary

Rita Jo Angus, 68, of Utica, died Thursday, May 29, 2025, at her home with her family by her side. She was born February 21, 1957, in Granville, OH, to the late Russell and Ruth (James) Burgoon.

Rita was known by many and loved by more. She had a heart so big that she would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. Her kindness knew no bounds, and her generosity was a testament to the depth of her character. She was a woman of many talents—tending to her flower and vegetable gardens with care, canning her harvests to share with others, and filling her home with the aromas of her cooking and baking. Her Sunday dinners were a cherished tradition, bringing family and friends together around her table. Rita's creativity shone through in her sewing and crafting, each piece a reflection of her artistic spirit. She embraced adventure, whether it was riding 4-wheelers or motorcycles, always eager to join in the fun with her loved ones. Above all, Rita was a devoted grandmother, never missing an opportunity to support her grandchildren at their sporting events. Most of all, if you truly knew her, you would know her avid love for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Her presence was a constant source of encouragement and love. She was too good to be true, yet she was real—her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Dale A. Angus; children, Brian (Aubrey) Angus, Trisha Angus, Ruth (Joe) Wahl, Chris (Sasha Sorsdal) Angus and Daniel (Jami) Angus; grandchildren, Brennan (Cass), Tyler (Dakota), Kaitlyn, Korey, Kobey, Khloe, Treven, Bridon, Bella and Owen; great grandchildren, Cohen and Avalynn; and several nieces, nephews and cousins – close friends, Wes (Amy) Showman and many others that called her mom.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Britney Angus; grandson, Colton Angus; and brother, Rick Burgoon. Along with many other Angus family members
