Obituary

Robert "Bob" Lee Newsome, 65, of Newark, passed away on June 12, 2025, at The James Cancer Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on February 29, 1960 in Holden, West Virginia.

As a child, Bob grew up running through the mountains of West Virginia, which instilled his love for the outdoors. He loved gardening, but most of all, he lived for the simple joy of sitting on his wooden swing with his wife, watching his children and grandchildren play in the yard.

Bob's work ethic was unmatched. He dedicated over 45 years to working concrete construction, and also working the last 10 years at Licking Memorial Hospital. Both careers led him to many friendships he cherished.

He faced his battle with lung cancer with remarkable strength and his unwavering spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Bob is survived by the love of his life, Tammy; his children, Robert (Toni) Newsome II, Douglas (Stephanie) Newsome, Justin (Jami) Newsome, Kayla (Christopher) Rine, and Jared Newsome; his grandchildren, Robert III, Cameron, Jackson, Addison, Riley, Parker, Kitana, Killian, Naomi, Jaxton, Violet, and Dean; and his siblings, Michael Lembeck-Edens, Roger (Gerlayne) Newsome, Jimmy Newsome, Debbie (Douglas) Hoar, Robert Fields, and Alice Fields. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Zona Gail (Richard) Scarbury and Carl (Bob) Bartoe; his grandparents, Lawrence (Georgie) Newsome and Oscar (Alice) Bartoe; and many beloved aunts and uncles.

He was a devoted husband, a doting father, a treasured papaw, a beloved brother, and a loyal friend to so many.

His spirit lives on in the hearts of his loved ones, and his legacy of empathy will last eternally.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., officiated by Pastor Doug Swan.
