A funeral service for Thelma A. Layman, 91, of Utica will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica with Pastor Marvin Haught officiating. Burial will be in South Lawn Cemetery.
Calling hours will be 3:00-7:00 p.m., Monday, November 27, 2017 and one hour prior to the service.
Thelma passed away November 24, 2017 at Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon. She was born on September 16, 1926 in Delaware County to the late Pearl S. and Lottie (Allen) Rathburn.
Thelma met her husband, Earl at Homer High School, and they were married on her 18 th birthday. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, and retired from Technical Rubber Company, Northridge Local Schools, and as a care-giver. She was a 70 year member of the Grange, attending the Centennial, Union and Dan Emmett Granges. She enjoyed her family and helping others her entire life.
She was married to her husband for 67 years.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Jo Layman; daughters and sons-in-law, Patsy and James Farmer, Nancy and John Karam, all of Utica; grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Lancia, Bret (Kelly) Layman, Jamie Farmer and Jenna (Luke) Simon, Bryan (Jessica) Kerr, Nathan (Rita) Kerr, Katie (Ben) Goff and Samantha Karam; great-grandchildren, Madison, Lauren and Elliot Layman, Rocco and Lucca Lancia, Reese Kornokovich, Jackson, Ryder and Sawyer Simon, Elizabeth Kerr, Emma Kerr, and Bennett Goff.
Special friend, Irene Conard Routsong, and many special nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by one brother and four sisters.
