Vera J. Hunter

January 21, 1933-February 3, 2020

A funeral service for Vera J. Hunter, 87, of Mt. Vernon will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, February 6, 2020 at Mount Vernon Church of God, 13160 Henry Rd., Mount Vernon with Pastor Jason Harding officiating. Burial will follow at Homer Cemetery.

The family will receive friends. 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm, Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.

Mrs. Hunter passed away on February 3, 2020 at Knox Community Hospital. She was born on January 21, 1933 in Toledo to the late William H. and Elizabeth Ellen (Hopkins) Garisch.

Vera loved her family and was a home health care worker. She attended Mount Vernon Church of God for many years.

She is survived by her son, Mark Wayne Haywood; daughter, Kate Posey; step-daughter, Patricia Howard; grandchildren, Heidi Sue Haywood-Dible, Amy (Tom) Parker, Tabitha (Troy) Kelley, Melanie Harris, Angie and Bobby Haywood, Tiffanie (Tim) Ferguson, Travis, Johnny and Katie Posey; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brothers and sister, Wesley (Carolyn) Looker, Abbie Combs, Vincent (Mary Ann) Looker and Ben Looker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John W. Haywood and Milton C. Hunter; children, Mary Haywood-Dowalter, Robert Haywood, Jim Haywood, Allen Haywood, granddaughters, Yvonne Lewis, Becky Haywood; sister, Barbara Ruth Garisch; brother Billy Garisch.
