Virgil Jerry Sowards
Mount Vernon - A funeral service for Virgil Jerry Sowards, 68 formerly of Utica, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Law-Baker Funeral Home with Bruce Hissong officiating. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery.
Jerry died September 22, 2013 at Laurels of Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon. He was born March 24, 1945, in Wooster, Ohio to the late Virgil F. and Golda G. (Fish) Sowards.
Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Danville High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1965-1968 and was employed by Hisan of Mount Vernon.
He is survived by his step children, Bernard (Cindy) Austermiller of Frazeysburg, Robert (Colleen) Austermiller of Galion, Bruce (Cindy) Austermiller of Zanesville, William Austermiller of Oregon, Ben Austermiller of Mount Vernon, Lucy (Johnny) Argentis of Pennsylvania; brother, Terry Sowards of Coshocton; sisters, Jade McGowan of Clarksville, GA, Wanda Singh of Atlanta, GA; many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Roberta C. (Billman) Sowards who passed away November 29, 2004; sisters, Romonia Jean Frazer, Norma Lee Farley and Dolly (Lloyd) Martin.
