A funeral service for Virginia L. Wathley, 84, of Johnstown will be held at 1pm on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica with Mary Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 11am-1pm prior to the service.

Virginia passed away on August 13, 2023 at Johnstown Pointe surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 10, 1939 in Columbus to the late Arthur and Opal (Hoffman) Kidwell. She married Jesse Carrington, Sr. on March 2, 1957 on the run in Louisiana. Later, she married Bert Wathley on May 28, 1989 in Virginia.

Virginia was a member of Lorraine Chapter of Eastern Star, she held many offices as well as Worthy Matron for several years.

She is survived by her sister, Thelma Cherrington; sons, Jesse Carrington, Jr. and Larry (Corinne) Carrington; daughter, Kim (Jim) Butcher and Pam (Monroe) Gass; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands, Jesse Carrington and Bert Wathley; daughter, Cynthia Carrington; son, Stephen Carrington; sister, Eleanor Boehm; brothers, Zeke Kidwell, Carl Kidwell, Charles Kidwell and Floyd Kidwell.

Special thanks to all the staff at Johnstown Pointe for taking such wonderful care of her. As well as Bella Care Hospice. Thanks to everyone that touched her life. She loved you all!
