Wanda L. Higgins
Utica - A funeral service for Wanda L. Higgins, 83 of Utica, will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Utica United Methodist Church with Pastor Ken Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery.
Wanda died January 9, 2012 at OSU James Cancer Hospital, Columbus. She was born April 20, 1928, in Newark to the late Charles Allan and Minnie Marie (Styer) LeMaster.
Wanda was a member of Utica United Methodist Church where she served on several committees. She was also a member of the Utica Historical Society and past member of Heart of Ohio Girl Scout Council. Wanda was a volunteer for the American Red Cross and the Board of Elections for Utica. She loved her bridge club friends of 65 years, reading, writing and having a good time with her family, friends and neighbors. Wanda was a chronicler of family and local history.
After she graduated from Newark High School in 1946 she worked at Burch's Gift Shop in Newark, was editor for the Utica Herald and retired after 17 years as secretary for the Utica United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her son, Glenn L. Higgins of Denver, CO; daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle and Eric Stewart of Granville, Leslie and Barry Casebolt of Utica; grandchildren, Anne (Clark) Deringer, Matthew (Heather) Stewart, Andrew Stewart, Megan Higgins and Mallory Higgins, Paul (Kristin) Casebolt, Sarah Casebolt and Jeff Casebolt; five great grandchildren, Lucas, Nicholas, Audrey, Gus and Avery; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Alberta LeMaster of Macon, GA; sister, Sherry LeMaster of Newark; sister-in-law, Juanita Snair of Newark; several nieces and nephews; and best friend, Juanita Booth of Utica.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Higgins whom she married September 11, 1949, an infant son, Richard J. Higgins and sister, Ellen LeMaster.
