Obituary

William “Bill” Dale Liggett, age 89, of Utica, passed peacefully from his family’s loving arms straight into the outstretched arms of Jesus, Sunday, August 16, 2026. He was born in Johnstown, Ohio on October 5, 1936, to the late Raymond and Edna (Davis) Liggett.

Even as a 3-year-old, Bill loved to follow behind his dad as he planted the single rows of dirt with his team of horses. He was privileged to be a part of history with the advent of tractors, learning to drive one before he could drive a vehicle. He was proud to be named FFA President 3 years at Johnstown High School. He spent his entire life loving what he was, a farmer. He loved the land, crops, and livestock and was a wonderful steward of what the Lord allowed him to have. Bill was a wonderful husband, family man, friend and neighbor. He attended Bell Church of Christ, giving God the glory in the good years as well as the poorer ones.

He is survived by his loving wife of 14 years, Peggy (Moore) Liggett; children, Debra Liggett, Becky Gough, and Charles Liggett; grandson, Willy Gough; great-granddaughters, Ella and Chloe Gough; 2 stepchildren; many step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 53 years, Lela (Vanfosson) Liggett; infant son, David Liggett; brothers, Joe and Gene Liggett.

Visitation will be held from 4pm-7pm Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N Main St, Utica, Ohio 43080. An 11am funeral service will take place Friday, August 21, 2026, at the Bell Church of Christ, 20871 Bell Church Rd, Utica, Ohio 43080, followed immediately by a graveside service at Green Hill Cemetery in Johnstown, Minister Steve Williams officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bill’s memory may be made to Hospice of Central Ohio, 2269 Cherry Valley Rd, SE, Newark, Ohio 43055.
