Obituary

William "Bill" Porterfield, age 78 of Utica, Ohio passed away on March 7, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on February 27th, 1946, in Bladensburg to the late Dwight and Mary (Baker) Porterfield. Bill graduated from East Knox High School in 1965. He is a retired Deputy Sheriff from the Knox County Sheriff's Department and The Utica Police Department. Bill and his wife Judi were the previous owner of Purity Market, the "Gathering Place"

Bill loved to be outdoors, he loved hunting, fishing, camping, panning for gold, golfing, and having coffee with the Lunch Bunch. He was always interested in sports and activities that his children and grandchildren were involved in and watching the Cleveland Browns & Cleveland Indians.  He was a member of Sons of American Legion Post #92, Utica Sertoma, North Licking Conservation Club, Utica Masonic Lodge #291, and Ohio Buckeye Chapter of the Gold Prospectors Association of America.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years Judi (Schwenke), three children, Farrah (Jeremy) Cooperider of Granville, Sherie (Jeff) Ford of Marysville, Shawn (Vicky) Smith of St. Louisville, six grandchildren, Tyler Billman, Dylan Cooperider, Alycia (David) Smith, Zachary Ford, Shane Ford, Blaine Smith one great-grandchild, Nora Jane Smith, two brothers, George (Kay) Porterfield, Hugh (Connie) Porterfield; sister in law, Barbara Schwenke,  brothers in law, Ron Schwenke, Ray (Joann) Schwenke, David (Helen) Schwenke. Along with several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 from 2-6pm at Brucker-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St. Utica, with a Masonic Service at 6pm. Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Monday at the funeral home with Pastor Matt Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at Bladensburg Cemetery.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Joyce Mosholder, Nancy Johnson, and brothers-in-law Michael Schwenke, Lawrence Mosholder, C. Guy Johnson.
